1/9/2021 – January Town Board Minutes

January 9, 2021 PORT WING TOWN BOARD MEETING MINUTES

Meeting called to order at 9:00 am, by Chairman, Russell Bailey. Present were Russell Bailey, Ken Bodeen, Gary Williams, Pam Holt, Nora Tribys and and DuWayne Zupke. Absent was Marge Ogren.

Motion was made to accept the minutes as presented by Ken, second by Gary. Motion was made by Gary to accept the treasurer’s report with a second by Ken.

Citizen’s Input – None.

ON GOING BUSINESS:

Kinney Valley Road Bridge Update – Ken reported that they drilled the core samples. Hit sandstone around 20 ft. Soil was soft above the 20 ft mark. Ken has not contacted Ayers since the sample was taken. Ayers will be working closely with the DNR. Bids will be let in March with work beginning in July or August.

Fire Dept Bank Loan renewal – process is complete.

New Doors for the town hall have been installed. Front door has a touch pad for the lock.

Sewer hookup – Motion made to accept the sewer ordinance change by Ken, second by Russell.

Parcel on 5th Street – ongoing research on the parcel.

Wetland Restoration – DNR would like suggestions on naming the site. Beth Hoagland will be working with the students at Southshore School on making the signs that will describe and list opportunities at the site. Russell gave DNR Mary Child’s contact information so she can put the video about the site on the town’s website. The DNR would also like us to put together a community group of 4 or 5 people to be active on making decisions on the site. LeeAnn Hess volunteered to be a part of the group.

NEW BUSINESS:

Kinney Valley Road – sign contract for the core samples

Beach Road/Hwy 13 – There is a muskrat problem between the two bridges – they are burrowing under the road. DNR says they can be trapped at any time. Paul J with Bayfield County suggesting using flares to deter them.

John with Northland Paving will be getting an estimate to fix pavement between two bridges (where?). Will discuss further after receiving the estimate. Russell brought up millings from Olson Bros and using a roller to compact the millings.

Zoning requests: None

DuWayne reported on recent activities of the Town Crew: He is working with Troy on the sewer discharge permit that needs to be renewed every five years. Two pumps are going to be pulled on Monday (Jan 11th). Issues with moisture and DuWayne suggested getting a commercial grade dehumidifier with a heater. Russell asked him to get pricing. Christmas lights are down. They will begin brushing on Morrison Road. Snow plowing – having issues with turning around in a citizen’s driveway. Working with them to get it resolved. Purchased 2 new batteries for snow plow. The maintenance on the backhoe still needs to completed.

LeeAnn Hess requested a resolution for the Bird City designation. Gary made a motion to approve and second by Ken.

Caucus for April Elections will be held after close of town meeting at 10am for the Town of Port Wing offices of Town Chairman, Two Town Supervisors, Town Clerk and Town Treasurer.

Next meeting set for Monday, February 8, 2021 at 7pm. Meeting adjourned by Ken with a second by Gary.
